Norman Virus
Control v5 for Firewall-1
Today most
companies are connected to the Internet, using
email, web browsers and FTP software. The need to
secure companies from unauthorized users getting in
to the network or employees accessing not approved
web sites, has mainly been the task for Firewalls
This is achieved by controlling the data stream at
the gateway.
It is estimated
that more than 80% of the viruses that get into
companies' networks come through emails. Therefore
the need to be able to scan for malware at the
gateway has become imperative. Norman Virus
Control v5 (NVC v5) for Firewall-1 is a virus
scanner that integrates with Check Point Firewall-1
through the CVP (Content Vectoring Protocol), making
sure that everything that passes through the gateway
is checked for viruses, trojans and other hostile
code.
Features in NVC v5
for Firewall-1
Real-time scanning
NVC v5 for
Firewall-1 scans all data packets entering or
leaving the network through the three main Internet
protocols, SMTP, HTTP and FTP. The scan is performed
in real-time mode for optimum security.
The handling of
viruses
You can
individually select how viruses are handled for the
three supported protocols, HTTP, FTP and SMTP.
The choices are
- clean
- remove
- warn only
- ignore
Infected files that
cannot be cleaned will be moved into quarantine. If
you receive an infected file, you can automatically
send a message to the sender informing her that she
has sent a virus to the receiver's address.
Updating
Norman Internet
Update (NIU) is an integrated part of the product
and can be configured to regularly check for new and
updated files on Norman's download servers.
NIU will
automatically update the virus definition files with
new virus signatures while continuously maintaining
virus protection.
System
requirements
For both servers
and workstations: Microsoft Windows 2000 or NT4 SP6
or later and Norman Virus Control version 5.
To function with
UNIX based Firewall-1 installations, NVC for
Firewall-1 needs to be installed on a separate
machine with Intel Pentium processor and Microsoft
Windows 2000 or NT4 SP6 installed.
